US announces 133 ‘Security Sensitive Airspace Restrictions’ applicable to drones from 14th April 2017

On April 7, 2017, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced plans to introduce 133 ‘drone no-fly zones’ (officially, “Special Security Instructions” under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) § 99.7) over U.S. military facilities. These new restrictions come in to effect from April 14th 2017.

Effective today, across all of our products and services, these new Security Sensitive Airspace Restrictions are visible:

Example showing Whiteman Air Force Base; a “no-fly zone” for drones from April 14th, 2017. This, plus 132 other FAA-official zones, are now present across all of Altitude Angel’s US products and services.

For our developer customers, from today, our data feeds will now also include these zones. Here’s an example for Whiteman Air Force Base (shown above, on our Drone Safety Map), as represented within our GeoJSON airspace data feed:
