Introducing our free drone safety map

January 4, 2016

Today, we are pleased to formally announce the launch of our free, global Drone Safety Map. It differs from other ‘drone maps’ by adding 18,000,000 ground hazards, legal restrictions and weather data. In the US, it also shows airports and aerodromes as well as controlled airspace, with filters for airspace restrictions more likely to affect a drone operator.

Our goal is to help drone operators to fly more safely, and to make that easier by providing easy access to safety planning data specifically useful to them. There is a wealth of aviation-focused data available today, but the majority of it is either largely irrelevant or not easily ‘digestible’ by a typical drone operator.

As a drone pilot obeying the law, you’re more likely to be affected by a ground hazard than an aerial restriction – such as a NOTAM or an exclusion zone. That’s why our map has over 70 categories of hazards, all classified with both soft and hard geofences to guide your operations and planning. Compatible drones can automatically connect to our database in real-time to help avoid collisions by automatically preventing the drone from entering geofenced areas.

Providing all of this data and the automatic geofencing capability is the Altitude Angel API – a backend service that developers and manufacturers can call on to integrate this wealth of data into their own products and apps.

The Drone Safety Map can be accessed at and if you’re a developer or manufacturer and want to talk to us about using our data – which is ready for geofencing and other ‘machine-to-machine’ applications, simply reach out to us at [email protected]
